What Would Cause an Automatic Transmission to Whine ?

depending on what type of transmission it is will depend on what is making the noise and why. like is it a 350 turbo or a 4R100. front wheel drive CD4E or a 440T4. with the various styles of transmissions it could be a list of things. the most common problem almost all transmissions share is front pump failure. this will cause a variety of things from whinning to burn up trans. the pump can fail in a few ways. by excessive wear to a modulating valve hanging up in it. there's also chances of valve body problems like valves hanging up in it. to simple things as low fluid level. some of the newer model transmissions have a full set of electronic solenoids that control pressure and shifts that could be causing a problem as well. outside of hydraulic systems there's bearings that could be bad to a sungear or planetary system in them thats worn out. in this case i would have to start by checking the fluid and work from there. if fluid level is fine then its time to see a transmission specialist, either at a trans shop or dealership.

1. Smoke/Gas smell coming from oil cap in 95 civic?

Lets separate out a few issues- The gasoline smell in the crank case is because of blow by. This blow by is to some degree normal. But it can be excessive as the rings fail. As rings fail the crank case is subject to more pressure and if the problem is excessive leads to failure of gaskets such places as the oil pan and valve covers. If you are not loosing coolant and the system is sucking coolant back into the engine when it cools- the odds are that the head gasket is fine. Now on the average a car this old would have about 210000 miles on it. This is well over the design life expectancy of the rings, valves and valve seals. While Honda's are known to get 250000 miles out of an engine- it might be wise to start shopping for a replacement engine (if you like the car) or a new car. If you are a gear head- start looking into what engines make nice swaps for power and act accordingly.

2. What concepts/rules apply for multi-stage pumping of water

I do not believe that this would be necessary. Most pumps (not constant volume ones) have a relationship between flow rate and pressure jump (often called a pump curve). Since the entrance diameter of the pump does not change, you've got (basically) the same momentum in the pipe at a given flow rate regardless of how it gets that way. Another way of looking at it is that any effect of the momentum is already taken into account experimentally when the manufacturer generates the pump curve. My memory is a bit hazy on this, but I do seem to recall that some kinds of pumps do not respond well to particularly non-uniform and/or turbulent flows entering them. The net result was that you would want to have a decent (ten-ish diameters) section of straight pipe leading up to the pump after any bends, valves etc.

3. Did i blow my car engine?

If your oil was leaking at a significant rate, it is possible that you were running it for some time with very little to no oil in it. If this is the case, there is a high probability that something in the engine might have warped as oil is the lubricant that reduces the friction on the internal engine components. I can see the situation possibly occurring like this: You hit your oil pan (which is located at the bottom of the car and is essentially your oil reserve) and it burst open, causing the oil leak and possibly the dragging sound. Then as you continued to run the engine, the internal temperature for your cams and valves responsible for combustion timing went too high up and they warped, and after you turned the car off, they no longer operated well enough to even allow the engine to turn over (run through its cycle) properly. That could be hell to fix, but hopefully you have a good mechanic...

All About Fire Safety Valves
One of the more recent developments in industrial tools to prevent fire is the introduction of fire safety valves. These valves are designed to prevent a fire from spreading if the fuel valve gets damaged or causes a leakage. A valve is a device that adjusts, directs, or controls the flow of a fluid by opening, closing, or partially blocking various passageways. Valves are technically a type of fitting but are usually discussed separately. In an open valve, fluid flows from higher pressure to lower pressure. The simplest kind of valve is simply a freely hinged flap that drops to obstruct flow one way but is pushed open by fluid flowing the opposite way. This ancient valve is called a check valve, as it stops or "checks" the flow in one direction. Modern valves may regulate pressure or flow downstream and operate on sophisticated automation systems. Valves have industrial applications for controlling processes, residential uses such managing water flow to dish and clothes washers and taps in the home. They are found in almost every industrial process, including mining, water and sewage processing, power generation, food manufacturing, processing of oil, gas and petroleum, chemical and plastic manufacturing, and many other fields. Fire-safe valves are spring-loaded valves that are thermally actuated. In case of fire, they close automatically and stop the fuel flow. The fuel flow from the crankcase of the engine and the reserve oil supply gets hindered, thus minimizing the chances of leakage. Spring-loaded valves help with preventing the flow of fuel such as oil, gas, petrol, and other combustibles, and are useful and effective against any damage. The benefits of using fire-safe valves in a system are the protection of human life, lower insurance rates, and the protection of equipment and the building. It is because of these benefits that the use of these valves is highly recommended and appreciated. These days, many companies offer an extensive range of fire-safety valves to provide protection even in high temperature and high-pressure conditions. A fire safety valve aims to keep ignitable fluids away from a flame. These valves close when exposed to heat, separating a flammable liquid from the heat source. They close in the midst of overheating of the pipeline, brought on by fire or similar events. The obligation to use fire safety valves is subject to any tenets, regulations, and laws concerning the unique methodology, plant, pipeline, or vessel. Fire-safe ball valves use a combination of a floating ball, graphoil seals, and metal-to-metal seating to provide tight shut-off while preventing external stem leakage. In normal working conditions, the ball rests against two seats, ensuring bubble-tight closure. When the valve is exposed to a temperature above the limits the seats can withstand (for example, 450F), the seats become deformed and are subject to extrusion. When the seats have been completely destroyed, the ball in the valve will come to rest firmly against the end cap, producing a metal to metal closing. Stem seals, which have high temperature-resistant properties, further restrict leakage in conjunction with a blow-out proof anti-static stem, so that the flammable fluid stays separate from the heat source that may ignite it. A fire-safe valve may also be made up of four main mechanisms: a spring pack, a trigger assembly, mounting hardware, and a fusible link. The components work in unison to close the valve should a fire be detected within a facility. The fusible link is the key part of the assembly. It keeps the valve open by maintaining tension on a spring pack through the trigger assembly. When a fire breaks out, the fusible link separates once it is heated to a certain high temperature, which releases the spring pack and allows it to close the valve. A fire-safety valve with fusible links has a primary drop-tight seat, usually made of TFE, along with a second seat made of metal for isolation in a fire. The secondary seat also has graphite seals for further protection. This means that the shut-off valves can be paired with any quarter-turn ball valve, butterfly valve, or plug valve. This article presents an understanding of fire safety valves. CAN Bus: Nodes powered by different Potential SourcesYou have two options:Either way, you need a dedicated signal ground CAN_GND, as specified by the ISO standard. This is particularly important in automotive and industrial applications where motors, coils or valves etc are present. Also note that the tolerated absolute maximum potential difference on the CANH/CANL pins varies quite a lot depending on CAN transceiver. In any event, your car ground potential will be nowhere near the household mains or laptop battery grounds, so if you plan to troubleshoot your CAN bus at all - which involves a PC - you need a signal ground for that alone2. Need a higher flow rate kitchen faucet? If everything you say is true and correct, I would say that you have a very unusual problem. Before you bother doing anything else, I would suggest that you go down to a good, local, & reputable plumbing shop in your area. Explain your problem to them and see what they say. FAUCETS them selves are typically not the cause of the problems that you are experiencing. Usually it is the, areators, faucet cartridges, supply lines or valves being the problem due to corrosion and/or grit & debris build-up in them. Anyway, good luck3. How to Know When the Valve Guides Are Worn OutHow to Know When the Valve Guides Are Worn Out Valve guides are integral to the proper operation of engines. The guides help regulate the air intake and compression by keeping valves in place as the engine works. Guides also cool down the valves, with the guide absorbing about one-quarter of the heat generated. By constantly accommodating the valve stems as they thrust in and out with great friction, the guides are susceptible to eventually wearing out. This can cause of bevy of problems. There are several ways to determine if your vehicle's valve guides are worn out. Observe your car when you accelerate and brake. If you see a billow of smoke from the exhaust pipe -- especially any blue smoke, which is caused by burning oil -- it is a sign that the valve guides are worn. Time how long it takes the car to consume a new quart of engine oil. Worn valve guides cause a much faster oil consumption rate. Open the hood, and locate the valve guides, using the owner's manual for guidance. Move the valve into the guide, and try to jiggle it from side to side. Any movement in the guide indicates that the valve guide has corroded. Measure the inside circumference of the valve guide, and the outer circumference of the valve with a gauge set. Compare the data with the optimum measurements listed in the owner's manual to test whether the valve guides are worn. Locate the spark plugs based on information in the owner's manual, and check for signs of gray or brown debris. If the ash appears on only one side of the spark plug, it could be a sign of worn valve guides. Buy a gauge set specifically made to measure valve guides at an auto parts store for the most accurate data. Do not attempt to handle or measure valve guides unless the engine is completely cool. Do You Know How Your Gas Engine Works
Humans need food to create the energy to hike Camelback Mountain, go to work, and even to get out of bed in the morning. Just as you need the energy to get moving, so does your vehicle's engine. In fact, the main task of the engine is to create energy from fuel to generate the power to move. This process is referred to as internal combustion as it literally creates small, controlled explosions to create movement. There are several components within the engine that assist in this process. Here's what you need to know to understand how your gas engine works:The Basics and How They WorkThere are five basic components housed in the engine block that contribute to internal combustion: crankshaft, cylinders, connecting rods, pistons, and spark plugs. The cylinder head is the cover and holds two to four valves per cylinder, the intake and exhaust, and the spark plug. Pistons are attached to the crankshaft by the connecting rods and placed into the cylinders. The cylinder holds the piston in place and allows it to move up and down smoothly. There is one cylinder for each piston. The more pistons a vehicle contains, the more power the engine can produce, which is why vehicles with six, eight, or ten-cylinder engines are better for towing than a four-cylinder vehicle. The combustion cycle starts with the piston at the top of the cylinder. A four-stroke process, for example, is based on the total number of combined upward and downward motions or strokes, known as RPMs. The sequence of each cycle is as follows:• As the piston moves downward, the intake valve allows the mixture of fuel and air in.• The piston moves up the cylinder, compressing the mixture against the cylinder head.• The spark plugs create a spark that ignites the mixture creating a small, controlled detonation.• The reaction from the spark forces the piston in a downward direction. When the piston begins to move upwards again, the exhaust valve opens, allowing the carbon waste to be removed out through the exhaust system. This cycle will be repeated hundreds of times per minute in order to propel your vehicle down the road. A two-stroke engine works in a similar fashion; however, it completes the cycle with less strokes and utilizes ports to transfer fuel and exhaust as opposed to the valves. Four-stroke engines are preferred over two-stroke engines, as they are more fuel efficient and produce less harmful emissions. As the pistons move downward, the crankshafts that they are attached to, are forced to move in a circular motion. The timing belt (or chain, depending on your engine) is connected to the crankshaft and collectively, rotate the camshaft. The camshaft controls the opening of the intake and exhaust valves, which requires precise timing. Concurrent to moving in their circular motion, the crankshaft also transfers this motion to the transmission, which eventually turns the wheels.Because of the extreme heat the internal combustion engines produce, it is very important that the components are cooled and lubricated properly. to pistons, bearings, and valves. Similarly, the cylinder heads that store the intake and exhaust, commonly experience damage as a result of overheating or lack of maintenance. Regularly performed cooling flushes and oil changes help to keep your engine in a like-new state, ensuring each component is properly cooled or lubricated to operate smoothly. Checking your timing belt for cracks, abrasions, or misalignments and replacing it as needed, will also prevent your vehicle from overheating or unexpected breakdowns. The engine is an essential component in your vehicle and needs to be cared for properly with routine oil changes and other scheduled maintenance. or replacements due to lack of maintenance or minor repairs can get very costly. If you are referring to the spring/ball combination that holds the shift lever rooster comb in gear like on a RWD Chrysler transmission, they do not use that method on a 41TE. Chrysler uses a spring steel lever with a roller on it to hold the rooster comb in place. I tried looking on line for a picture of the check ball locations, but came up empty. If you give me a little more info on your problem, I will try to help. Feel free to e-mail me.

A New Pulse in Bag Houses | Industry Articles | Dwyer InstrumentsWhile many pulse valves physically do not look different, the internal components have changed. Dwyer pulse valves allow for easier maintenance, as well as improved reliability.Pulse valves have always been used in dust collection bag house systems. The purpose of this valve is to provide a quick short burstof air to release particulate that is collected on the cartridge filters, used in a dust collection system. The valve is typically mounted to a manifold that would provide the needed air pressure. On most collectors you will see one valve per cartridge filter. The picture to the right displays a typical collector, filter, and valves mounted at the top of the system. The pulse valves are typically controlled by a timer control board, such as the Dwyer Series DCT600 or DCT500A , or a programmable logic controller (PLC). The timer board will cycle through each valve once a predetermined pressure drop across the filters is reached, relieving particulate from the filters to maintain a low differential pressure. Through the use of pulse valves and a timer control board, a user can maintain their system at optimum conditions allowing for longer life out of the cartridge filters. To better service dust collectors, Dwyer has released the Series DCS and RDCS Springless Diaphragm Valves. These valves combine a new springless diaphragm technology into our previous valve housing. A springless diaphragm valve combines the spring typically used for controlling the diaphragm and the valve into a single component; Dwyer uses a thermoplastic polyurethane diaphragm. The combination of these two components into a single diaphragm allows for easier field service and replacement. With using an elastomer diaphragm for air pulse control, this allows for a more reliable and consistent pulses versus the previous spring style which can change as the spring ages.To allow for all types of systems, the DCS and RDCS pulse valves are configured with both NPT process connections and coupling connections for a quicker installation. The valves can also be purchase with an integral coil/solenoid or a remote mount unit, where a solenoid valve would need to be mounted in a separate enclosure.2. 1959 Mercedes 220S,1971 Mercedes 220, fuel questions? The biggest difference is that various chemicals are used in place of tetraethyl lead. Contrary to the mythology that lead "lubricates" valves, it does nothing of the sort. What it does do is build up deposits on the valves (especially the exhaust valve), providing some insulation. Without lead, it's like a blacksmith pounding on a red hot horseshoe: the overheated valve seat can recess into the head. This is only really a problem with cast iron heads operating at high RPM, because cast iron is a poor thermal conductior. I believe all of your cars have aluminum heads with steel seats, these should be resistant to the problem. And vintage cars are rarely driven at the limits, so the valve seats wo not get as hot. You should be fine. I have several vintage cars and have never worried about unleaded fuel. However, ethanol can be a problem. If possible, you want to avoid using ethanol enhanced fuels in older cars. The reason is that older hoses and pump diaphagms tend to degrade rapidly in ethanol. If your fuel lines, carbs, and fuel pump have been redone in the last 20 years, the probability is that you are fine. But if your fuel system still has vintage rubber anywhere, beware of ethanol. I almost forgot the 240D. I've always used Mercedes Diesels as daily drivers. Most of them go hundreds of thousands of miles without a fuel related problem (as long as the fuel does not get contaminated with water and you change your filters regularly). Recently, the US went to ultra low sulfur Diesel. In raw form, ULSD has less lubricity than the old stuff, so it has the potential to cause pump failure. But the refiners (at least in the northeast) have been mixing a little biodiesel in with it. This not only increases the lubricity, it raises cetane a couple of points. So far, I've found it works better than the old stuff. We will see if there's any impact on durability.3. Are all blow off valves the same size from the gasket area ?A "Blow Off Valve"? Washing Machine Shutoff Valve Won't Close
Our original washer valves were 1/2" multi-turn with rubber washer to brass seat and they were sweated onto the 1/2" copper tubing. The sweat joint was exposed in the box so I did not have to open up the drywall below the box. When I redid them I sweated on a fitting going to 1/2" FIP so I could thread in valves.I thought the new quarter turn ball valves I got from HD or Lowe's were themselves 1/2" FIP and I got a "nipple" ( 1/2" MIP x 1/2" MIP) to connect the two 1/2" FIP joints on the supply and the valve, respectively. But looking at the valve it appears that the valves are actually 1/2" MIP. I don't know if this is the best way to do this. I had a lot of trouble with getting the threaded joint to stop seeping. I can see why the professionals prefer to sweat the valve in. But for an amateur using a torch inside a wall risks starting a fire. The suggestion of using a SharkBite is a good one.EDITI said above that I had considerable trouble getting these valves to stop seeping and I think I now realize why--the threaded tubes on these long shank valves are surely straight, parallel and are not tapered! Long shanks cannot tapered. They could be tapered at the ends and straight above that, but that would show .Only short shank valves can be tapered, Short shank valves of course could be straight, but almost certainly (at least in the US) would be tapered. I redid these three times and finally got it to a very slow seep which plugged up over a week or so. But this is not an acceptable installation. These valves were probably intended for sweating 1/2" copper tubing inside the shank. The threads were probably intended for a pair of nuts to clamp it to these now ubiquitous plastic boxes• Related QuestionsHow do you avoid mold in a washing machine?Assuming that you have a front loading washing machine follow these steps in order to remove and prevent mold in your washing machine.Try using less detergent/fabric softener. The most common reason is poor maintenance. Yes, this may surprise you, but many washing machine users have no idea how to maintain their machines. Simple maintenance steps should be taken periodically to guarantee the efficiency of the machine. Simply because your machine cleans things does not mean it does not need to be cleaned - or at least looked after. Your washing machine needs as much attention as any other gadget or machine!Another possible reason why your washing machine may be smelling is if some parts of it develop a fault. Like all electrical gadgets, washing machines are prone to damage and faults. A mechanical part of it may develop some random fault which may cause the smell. What you need to do, then, is to employ the services of professionals in the field who will inspect the machine for you and ascertain what the problem is. Although a washing machine does simple things, it is a complex barrage of circuits and wires so do not attempt to 'repair' it yourself if you do not have the necessary skills and knowledge involved.New washing machines have hoses and drains that let out used water in them. When those drains are clogged, some smells may be emanating because of the residue inside the drains. That, naturally, will cause such smell. There are many things that one can do to prevent such smell.Another reason could be the installation of the washing machine. Many washing machines are installed incorrectly. And though they may work in the meantime, such washing machines run high risks of developing faults which can then lead to the foul smell. This is why installing a washing machine on one's own is not entirely advised. Faults may occur as a result of such installation. Some professionals deal with washing machine installation and repair. The services of such professionals should be procured to avoid any disasters.Read More: Washing Machine Smells Like Sewage------What is the best way to move my new washing machine into my basement?Obviously, paying the store to deliver is the smart way to go. That way, you aren't responsible if your expensive new washer gets damaged. Okay, I get it...you're going to do it yourself. There are a couple of options. Renting an appliance dolly makes the most sense, but you can probably make do with your standard dolly (assuming it is rated for the weight). Your washer probably weighs a little less...but within spitting distance of 200 lbs. Depending on the method you choose, the weight may be reduced by friction, but worst case is that each of you will need to lift (or hold back) no more than 100lbs.If you opt to use your regular dolly, you'll want to strap the washer to it (like on an appliance dolly). Then you get one person above, and one person below. Walk it down the stairs, one step at a time and take time to rest mid-way, if needed. Gravity will do the work. You just have to control it for 8 inches at a time. Make a few practice runs with the empty box to be sure you have the hang of going step by step, and that there is enough clearance. The last thing you need is to get stuck halfway! The other method is to slide it. In fact, just last week my wife and I slid a new water heater into the basement. I got a long 2x10 and laid it along the steps as a slide. Then we laid it down at the balance point on the top step and both of us got below it to guide it down. Friction helps reduce the weight, so it's quite manageable. Best if it's still in the box, otherwise it'll get scratched up. Sounds like the box won't fit through the door, but you could at least lay cardboard under it.------Where is the best Whirlpool Washing Machine Service Center in Hyderabad?Hi,The four cycles that every Whirlpool Washing Machine like every washing machine performs are fill, wash, drain, and spin. Schaefer, tired of being out of public office, and still popular with a wide support among the electorate, won easily following Goldstein's death.Ironically, Schaefer and Goldstein sat on the Maryland Board of Public Works together when Goldstein was comptroller and Schaefer was governor. Packing Fibers and Their Industrial Applications in Pumps and Valves
Understand compression packing materials before the selection process to ensure compatibility with the application.Compression packing, made from different packing fibers, is one of the oldest and most common sealing devices. It prevents product leakage and extend the lives of pumps, valves and other rotating equipment. Constructed of relatively soft materials, packing compresses within the stuffing box between the rotating member and the body of the pump or valve to form a seal.By tightening the gland against the outboard ring, pressure transmits to the packing set, which expands the rings radially, creating the seal. The different packing braid designs include: multi-lok, square braid, braid over core, braid over braid, and twisted. Before selecting compression packing, specifiers must research the different types of fiber materials. This article details eight different types of packing fibers. Each should be chosen according to their compatibility with the application. The eight types are:Flax packing fibers form packing for brine, cold water, and cold oils. This economical solution serves the shipping industry in stern tubes and some power generation applications in hydroelectric turbines. Flax fiber handles shaft speeds of 1,885 feet per minute (fpm), temperatures to 220°F, and a 5 to 9 pH range.Acrylic fiber creates a good, general-service packing. It is commonly referred to as Teflon or graphite by many end users. This material is used for constructing packing used to seal:In addition, optional PTFE coatings protect the fibers from chemical attack and ensure good break-in characteristics. Some acrylic fiber may be braided throughout with PTFE. Saturating and sealing the fibers with the PTFE particles protects them from chemical action. A surface coating of PTFE may be applied after braiding. In addition, a special high-temperature lubricant helps ensure good break-in characteristics. This low-cost packing seals rotary and reciprocating pumps and agitators in the chemical and oil and gas industries. It withstands shaft speeds to 1,885 fpm, temperatures to 500°F, and a pH range of 4 to 10.Novoloid packing fibers are some of the most popular. An excellent, all-around material, it has good thermal conductivity characteristics and withstands higher shaft speeds. Some novoloid packing may have a special lubrication process applied that transforms each individual fiber into a reservoir of lubrication for longer packing life.Because novoloid contains no silicon, sulfur, or wax, it is an excellent alternative to graphite packing. Primarily, it seals applications in the chemical and pulp and paper industries in which graphite cannot be used. This high-performance alternative contains fluids and slurries in rotating and reciprocating pumps, washer journals, liquor pumps, refiners, and digesters. Also, it works well for many general service applications including:• Multiuse in chemical plants and pulp and paper millsNovoloid fibers handle shaft speeds to 1,800 fpm, temperatures to 500°F, and a pH range of 1 to 13 (except in concentrated, hot sulfuric or nitric acid).Aramid performs well in extremely abrasive environments. These fiber strands can be individually treated with a PTFE coating and a light, inert oil to improve resistance to:In abrasive services, it also serves as a bull or anti-extrusion ring-a ring of packing used at one or both ends of a packing set. It tolerates shaft speeds to 1,800 fpm, temperatures to 500°F, and a pH range of 3 to 11.PTFE fibers have a high resistance to chemicals with low levels of friction and adhesion. PTFE fibers perform excellently in corrosive services. However, they have poor thermal conductivity without graphite lubricants.Sometimes, PTFE filament packing is prelubricated to provide a softer, more flexible packing with improved peripheral speed characteristics and exothermic properties. It can be used for any equipment in which braided packing is commonly used.PTFE fibers operate successfully in chemical processing, pumps, and other rotating equipment. They handle shaft speeds to 1,200 fpm (no graphite) and 4,900 fpm (with graphite). They withstand temperatures to 500°F, and a pH range of 0 to 14.This family of PTFE is constructed from an expanded PTFE that encapsulates graphite or a proprietary lubricant. The expansion process produces a microstructure that has a higher strength than PTFE filament fibers. It performs well in color-sensitive environments, such as the food and beverage industry, and may comply with FDA and USDA requirements under Title 21 Food and Drugs, 178.2570, Lubricants with Incidental Food Contact, 177.1550, Perfluorocarbon Resins.Expanded PTFE fiber, treated with special lubricants that contain no sulfur, silicone, or wax, handles shaft speed ranges from 1,200 fpm (no graphite) and unlimited (with graphite). In addition, it withstands temperatures to 550°F, and a pH range of 0 to 14.These proven industry performers excel because of its manufacturing method: the heat treatment process of a synthetic fiber. These fibers experience multiple heat treatments to achieve the desired carbon or graphite content.Carbon and graphite packing can also be treated with PTFE to help prevent color contamination and carbon migration. This fiber performs well in high-pressure, high-temperature and high-shaft-speed applications. It handles shaft speeds to 4,000 fpm, temperatures to 650°F, and a pH range of 0 to 14.Flexible graphite tape is manufactured by exfoliating, expanding and then compressing the graphite flakes into a specific density. It has excellent thermal properties. Also, when mixed with reinforcing fibers, it becomes a yarn. It is used in high-pressure, high-temperature and high-shaft-speed applications. This tape handles shaft speeds greater than 4,000 fpm, temperatures of 850°F in oxidizing services, and a pH range of 0 to 14.For even higher temperatures, some braided packing is made of pure graphite fibers. A fine, submicron powder of inorganic graphite saturates these fibers. This packing is rated for high-temperature applications and is used in the following equipment when minimum leakage is required under severe service conditions:In addition, sealing technology experts recommended it for strong caustics, acids, chemical and high-pressure steam. This style works best in high-temperature and high-shaft-speed applications including those in the nuclear industry and those that require temperatures up to 850°F.To summarize, correctly specifying braided packing requires knowledge of the fiber's chemical and thermal properties. Choose from a family of packing that will cover all the processes in the plant while providing peace-of-mind performance. However, this is Step 1 toward success. Proper installation and maintenance are the other two components of successful operations. Correct technique should be followed when replacing packing as well.how does the submarines work? This question is a bit vague, but I will give you the basics. Submarines are obviously airtight, or if you prefer, waterproof. This means that no unwanted water can get in. They have ballast tanks. These are tanks that have openings to let water in, with valves to control and stop the flow of water. They also have air pumps. When air is pumped into a ballast tank, it forces the water out. When a submarine wants to dive they fill the ballast tanks with water. When they want to suface, they pump air back in, and this makes the submarine buoyant again. Modern subs are nuclear powered. The nuclear generator makes steam which powers all the electrical processes of the sub. They even make their own air, and some are able to stay submerged for months.
Why Is There a Continuous Dripping Sound Coming From My Toilet?
My intuition tells me this is the fill valve, it stopped when the fill line / valve were de-pressured overnightThere is a dripping sound coming from my toilet. It happens about once a minute constantly. I've eliminated every possibility I could think of:I put food coloring into the tank and waited 20 minutes. The water in the bowl did not change color. Furthermore it does not exhibit the other sign of a leaking flapper, the tank occasionally refilling.I observed the refill tube and did not see anything dripping from it.I turned off the water and the sound continued. After leaving the water off overnight, the sound stopped.Unlike How to fix dripping sound coming from toilets? this happens pretty much constantly, not just when material is added to the bowl.Any other ideas? Or problems with my beliefs above?UPDATE:As per a comment on the accepted answer, I replaced the fill valve, and the sound went away. That was only three years ago. Now, the sound is back. Fill valves should last longer than three years, right? The new fill valve wasn't even the same brand or style as the old one.·OTHER ANSWER:There is a dripping sound coming from my toilet. Trumpet - Charles Colin Lip Flexibilities Vol. 1 Exercise 1
Here's some philosophy on lip slurs. I have not played this book in particular, but as a brass specialist I can talk about lip flexibility in general; it's the same thing. The ultimate goal of this is to have a clean transition between any two notes in different partials. This is the same whether you are trilling between two partials in a high register very quickly or jumping over many partials in the middle register. I am curious as to what you mean by "bending." This might just be a shorthand for a different notation, or a misinterpretation of some marking, but I can not think of a situation outside of jazz or modern extended techniques where you would need to "bend" a note on the trumpet. Trills do not require that. What is being shown in this example is a pretty simple lip slur exercise. The notation indicates that every pair of notes should be tongued, slurring from the first to the second note of each pair with a continuous airstream. One way to practice this at first would be to play on the mouthpiece alone by slowly glissing, or bending, from the first note to the next. This helps to encourage the right lip movement and continuous airstream. As this starts to feel comfortable you can speed it up, so that when you put the mouthpiece back into the instrument, the movement is so fast that you only play two pitches and do not hear anything in between. That's the objective, a clean, clear break between the G and the C.The idea is to make the lip slur sound no different from a slur between two notes in the same partial with different fingerings. You can play two different notes in the same partial just by depressing a valve; this will give you a clean, clear break between the two notes, and they will be connected if you do not interrupt the airstream. Your goal is to make two notes in different partials with the same valve combination under a slur sound exactly the same way.As you get to more advanced material, you will extend this by beginning to lip slur across partials. Consider a 6th between middle G and high E. Both of those notes are played open, but there is a partial in the middle for high C. When you slur between G and E, it should sound no different than slurring between G and C (and by extension, no different from playing two notes right next to each other with valves). When you first try this, you will almost certainly hear the C in between those two notes (because keep in mind, you should not use the tongue to articulate a lip slur!). Your job is to minimize that partial in the middle to the point where it disappears entirely and you only hear the G and E when you slur between them. This is why practicing lip slurs is so important to brass players--it's our life blood. Lip trills are just these techniques taken to their extreme in the upper register. You are going to start practicing them VERY SLOWLY, and should be aiming for the exact same kind of lip slur that you are practicing now: clean, clear breaks between notes. The only thing different is that lip slurs happen in the very high registers, where partials are only 1-2. 5 semitones apart, and the slur is going to happen very fast1. Cylinder 1 Misfire, I tried everything, It won't go away! 97' Oldsmobile 88?Possible #1 injector connector plug in is broken--wiggle while running and see if the engine changes. The Crank Position Sensor may be defective when detection of #1 is to fire due to dirt on the balance wheel. Possible spark tracking on cylinder #1 due to no dielectric grease on insulator of plug. need compression test on#1 ,check valves for stuck or burned, lose rocker. MAF sensor may be bad Plug gap may be too wide Low fuel pressure can cause misfire Water or impurities will cause misfire. Fuel pressure regulator may be defective.2. Does transmission fluid help to quiet valves ticking?I heard if you add a 1/2 quart atf to your oil it wo not thin it out enough to cause lack of lube. I've got a couple noisy lifters in my 3.9 liter Dakota when I rev the engine up around 2,400 RPM so I am gonna try the atf. I hear it works well so long as the engine is not to plugged with sludge. If the engine is loaded with sludge, then the atf breaks too much free and it either blocks the oil pump pickup screen or plugs the oil filter, which caused the bypass valve to let all that heavily contaminated oil circulate through the engine and then the real problems begin. So for some engines that have been overly neglected it might not be a good idea to try atf in the oil.3. how important are PCV Valves?the pcv valve helps relieve air pressure built up in the valve cover. but it also acts as a check so that oil does not go into your TBI. You should be ok to run it like that but I dont think the grommet will be that costly to replace.
Oil and Gas Drives Growth in Valves and Actuator Market.
VALVES which are used to control pressure, temperature and level ofliquid are called control valves. These are widely used in industrieswhere the flow and level are required to be maintained. Control valvesopen or close responding to the process variable defined for itsoperation by means of electric and pneumatic actuators. The major factorswhich are driving the control valves market includes: growing investmentin the oil and gas sector. This automatically creates demand for controlvalves, as they find application right from the extraction of crude oiland gas till it reaches the end customers via refinery and oil terminalsand depots. Emerging economies like China and India are also increasingtheir hydrocarbon investment which is again boosting the demand forcontrol valves. But, despite the growing demand for control valvesglobally, the challenge is of setting up an efficient system oflogistics and supply. Another challenge faced by the global valvesmanufacturing companies is to evolve with time and cope up with changingrequirements of their clients by innovating control valves. Immenseopportunities exist in emerging economies like India and China which areboosting their investment in hydrocarbons in order to cater to thegrowing demand for fuel. The global control valves market was estimatedto be close to $6.34 billion in 2012 which is expected to reach a levelof $10 billion by 2018, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.02per cent, from 2013 to 2018 owing to strong demand of control valvesused in petroleum, petrochemicals and chemicals industries. The NorthAmerica and Europe control valves markets are considered as maturemarket and so they are expected to grow at a low rate. Middle East beingone of the major supplier and producer of oil and gas will drive themarket for control valves in the next decade. Another report says thatthe global industrial valves and actuators market is forecasted to growat a CAGR of 5.06 per cent over the period 2014 to 2018. And one of themajor drivers in the market is increased demand from the oil and gasindustry. The increased growth of the global oil and gas industry hasled to a growing demand for industrial valves.According to the GlobalIndustrial Valve and Actuator Market 2014-2018 report, industrial valvesand actuators are devices that are used to control, direct and regulatethe flow of fluids such as gases, liquids and fluidised solids. Thesevalves are widely used in the industrial production process by severalprocess industries in order to control the flow of fluids or gases. Theregulation or the control of the valve can be undertaken eitherphysically or automatically. There are different types of valvesaccording to the needs and demands of the production process. Valvesincrease the operational efficiencies of the industrial productionprocess and also enhance safety measures in process industries.LOW-COSTVALVES Industrial valves are devices that regulate, control or directthe flow of any medium passing through it. Actuators are used for theautomation of valves to ensure that the pressure and flow control are inline with the set parameters. Their functions include automatic controlof valve position, safety, diagnosis and process control. The industrialvalves and actuators market is set to grow in the ensuing years withincrease in industrialisation activity across the globe. Key drivers forthe market's growth are automation in the modernisation andexpansion of existing facilities, increasing demand for flow controlequipment and surging requirement for resources such as water andenergy. However, the increasing competition among vendors could impose arestraint for the market's growth.Expanding the end use applicationof industrial valves and actuators could provide a significant growthopportunity for the market. For example, a trend in the energy sector isseen towards the use of shale gas as an energy source this would lead toan increase in the demand for industrial valves and actuators. Liquefiednatural gas, biotechnology, desalination and ethanol are some promisingmarkets for industrial valves and actuators. The industrial valves andactuators market can be segmented on the basis of product type, end-useand geography. The market segmentation on the basis of product typeincludes self acting valves, quarter turn valves, control valves, multiturn vales, and actuators (pneumatic, hydraulic or electric). End usersfor industrial valves and actuators are in oil and gas refineries, powergeneration plants, nuclear process plants, chemical and petrochemicalindustries, pulp and paper industries, metal and mining industries, pipelines, water and wastewater industries among others. Energyapplications account for a majority of the industrial valves andactuators market followed by water and wastewater treatment industries. The global industrial valves and actuators market is witnessing theadoption of quarter-turn valves. In quarter-turn valves, the closureshaft needs to be rotated to 90 degrees. The closure shaft is used forquick opening or closing of valves. Quarter-turn valves are used in thewater industry to control and regulate the flow of water throughpipelines. The growth of the water industry in the APAC region has ledto increased demand for quarter-turn valves from this region. Increaseduse of such valves in the water industry and across other industriessuch as oil and gas, power, pharmaceutical, food and beverages, pulp andpaper, and refinery has led to high demand for quarter-turnvalves.Geographical segmentation includes regions such as North America,Europe, Asia Pacific and Rest of the World. Europe and North Americahave a large base for industrial valves and actuators market. The marketis mature in the US, Japan and Western Europe as they aretechnologically advanced regions. Asia Pacific is expected to witnesshighest growth over the forecast period owing to the rising expansionand automation of industrial activity. High demand for resources fromregions such as India and China is expected to drive the need forautomating process control in order to provide high throughput. Keymarket players include, Flowserve, Emerson Electric, Tyco International,Kitz Corp. The report recognises the following companies as the keyplayers in the global industrial valve and actuator market: CameronInternational, Emerson Electric, Flowserve, Pentair, Alfa Laval, AVKGroup, Crane Co, Curtiss Wright, GE, Honeywell International, IMI, KitzCorp, KSB Group, Neway Valve (Suzhou), Rotork, Valvitalia Group, Velan,Weir Group.PROJECTS BOOST GROWTH Meanwhile, global purchase of petroleumequipment is driving Chinese valve devices to the overseas market, saysanother report. The trend in the industrial valves and actuators marketshows a growing awareness to bring reliability and quality within theoverall framework of technology upgradation that is driving upprices. The competition in global valve manufacturing enterprises isfierce. There is no monopoly till now. West European valve manufactureenterprises, eg Germany, the UK and France take up 40 per cent globalmarket share while the production and export of valves in Asia-Pacificregion mainly concentrate in India, China and Japan. Valve products madein Japan are mainly high-end while those made in India and China arelow-end.To survive in the global competition and lower the cost, manyworld famous valve manufacturers transfer their factories to China,India, Korea and Middle Europe from North America, Europe andJapan.Currently, China's valve manufacturing industry can provideabout 12 categories with over 3,000 models of products in over 4,000specifications. The parameter performance ranges from vacuum valve toultra high pressure valve in 600 Mpa and the temperature ranges from low-196-deg C to high 570-deg C. Major products can basically fit thedomestic market demand. With the improvement in complete set ratio, complete set level and ability, the industry has founded a base.SinceChina's reform and opening-up, China's valve industry has fastdeveloped to be the largest manufacturer in the globe. In 2012, theoutput volume of valves in China reached 7.213 million tonnes. The CAGRof the output volume in 2002-2012 was 25.2 per cent. In 2012, the grossoutput value of the industry exceeded CNY 210 billion ($34.20 billion). In 2012, there were over 1,500 state-owned valve enterprises with annualsales revenue of CNY 20 million ($3.2 million). Meanwhile, there arethousands of small-scale enterprises and household workshops.Currently, about 50 per cent of global valve parts are purchased from China. Chinahas been the largest exporter of valves.Global purchase of petroleumequipment drives Chinese valve devices to the overseas market. Priceadvantage is one major factor attracting foreign buyers; besides, thedelivery advantage is another factor. For instance, the delivery ofChinese valves is about 6 to 8 weeks while that of European valves is aslong as 6 to 24 weeks. Chinese factories can further shorten thedelivery. In China, some ordinary valve product market has beensaturated, which hinder the development of medium to small scaleenterprises. Even for those products with high technology contents, thecompetition in the global market is also fierce. Heat valve, environmentprotection valve, building valve, etc. can be found on China market. However, the products are still on low-end level. The industryconcentration rate of China valve market is still low. Qualities ofdifferent products are not the same. The overall technology level ofChina valve industry still lag behind that of developed countries'.Domestic enterprises lack independent intellectual property rights andcore technology, which leads failure in global high-end market. High-enddemand is satisfied by import. In 2012, the import value of valves inChina exceeded $6 billion. With the economic development, demand forvalves in China is still growing. On the whole, the prospect of Chinavalve industry is good. In the next two to three years, China may exceedthe US to be the largest valve market in the world.Although the labourcost is increasing and core technical talents is scarce, the largemarket potential provides opportunities for foreign capitals in Chinavalve market.
