Ball Valves Washing Out When Used As Flow Control?

Why would a ball valve "wash out"? You could rebuild the gate valves first, but why do you have a 75% failure rate? Did you get them too hot when installing? Go with the ball valve and use MAPP gas, it burns hotter and you can sweat a fitting faster without cooking your valves rubber components. Make sure pipe and valve interiors are dry and be quick with the torch. My Dad would say "Quick, like you are kissing a duck's butt."...I never knew what he meant by that.

1. installed sink in bathroom both faucets running fine left side no water then right side no water what happened?

on two handle faucet best guess would be your faucet has a glog moving from one side to the other as water pressure is applied. first take off the areator and make sure that is not clogged ( it may be that simple ). if water has been shut off at meter at street or this is a newly built structure clogs happen. i,ve had clogs in the internal passages clog and had to remove the stems and or cartridges and faucet supply lines ( after water has been turned off under sink ) to faucet and blown clogs out with a compressor. i,ve had to do this even with single handle shower manifolds. the stem or cartridge is what the handles are turning. pop the cap off the handle and turn handle to open position and remove screws then handles. stems can be taken out with wrench usually, once in a i have to use small channel locks for a cartridge style ( stems unscrew and cartridges gently pull up ) and be careful with a plastic cartridge. make sure you reinstall stems in open position. i have also had the relativley new flood safe faucet supply lines shut off on me and will not reopen even after relieving water pressure which means turn off valves and turn on faucet handles. i have had several of those fail along with the brasscraft one quarter turn supply valves. that probably is not the problem . one last far fetched possibility may be that a after market hot water circulator has been added to your system. these have a crossover from hot to cold supply valves under sink and are placed at the sink farthest away from water heater and thats all i can say without being there thankyou kevin

2. Poppet/Overhead Valves making too much Noise!?

lifters/tappets do not knock,rod and main bearings do.lifters/tappets clack,they do not knock.,they tick or worse case they clack.the clue should have been uphill,and when giving gas.almost certain its a rod,but hey im a non mechanic who's been wrenching since before i had hair down there and im like 42 now.

3. Does transmission fluid help to quiet valves ticking?

No it will not quiet an engine. Transmission fluid thins the oil and you loose lubrication and will damage your engine if you put to much in. You can put in about 1 to 2 pints and it will help clean some of the sludge out of the engine, but do not do this consistently. If you are using a 5w-30w oil then go to a 10w-40w oil or a 20w-50w oil. These are higher weight oils and thicker. Another thing you can do is go to a straight weight oil. If you are using a multi-weight oil, go to a straight 30w and add a pint of STP.

4. Why does my shower head drip when the tub faucet is on?

It seems to me that it boils down to the basics... you have a certain volume of water at a certain pressure. If the diverter is fully open, and there is more water coming through than it can handle, then there is overflow going to the shower. The water pressure can not be more than what is available coming in, so that should be regulated for the whole house; if it's too high, valves could fail elsewhere. If it's correct, then this can not really be the problem (directly).So, it must be a matter of pipe sizes or diverter valve capacity. There must either be an obstruction at or after the diverter valve, or the pipe going to the shower is too small and fills up, so to speak. If the pipe going to the shower head was bigger, it would act as a reservoir and take more water before it overflows out the shower head. It may be that there is simply too much water coming to the shower, and a flow restrictor leading to the valves, or limiter on the valves is needed. I do not know if the valves have a way to limit the water. The main question would be whether there is lots of water coming out of both the shower head and the tub outlet when the valve is at the setting that does not come out of the shower head when it should not .Sorry this is not exactly a full answer, but it's too much to put in a comment, and I thought it might be helpful for troubleshooting the problem.

This process is referred to as internal combustion as it literally creates small, controlled explosions to create movement. There are several components within the engine that assist in this process. If you are referring to the spring/ball combination that holds the shift lever rooster comb in gear like on a RWD Chrysler transmission, they do not use that method on a 41TE. Chrysler uses a spring steel lever with a roller on it to hold the rooster comb in place. I tried looking on line for a picture of the check ball locations, but came up empty. Contrary to the mythology that lead "lubricates" valves, it does nothing of the sort. What it does do is build up deposits on the valves (especially the exhaust valve), providing some insulation. Without lead, it's like a blacksmith pounding on a red hot horseshoe: the overheated valve seat can recess into the head. This is only really a problem with cast iron heads operating at high RPM, because cast iron is a poor thermal conductior. I believe all of your cars have aluminum heads with steel seats, these should be resistant to the problem. And vintage cars are rarely driven at the limits, so the valve seats wo not get as hot. You should be fine. I have several vintage cars and have never worried about unleaded fuel. However, ethanol can be a problem. If possible, you want to avoid using ethanol enhanced fuels in older cars. The reason is that older hoses and pump diaphagms tend to degrade rapidly in ethanol. If your fuel lines, carbs, and fuel pump have been redone in the last 20 years, the probability is that you are fine. But if your fuel system still has vintage rubber anywhere, beware of ethanol. I almost forgot the 240D. I've always used Mercedes Diesels as daily drivers. Most of them go hundreds of thousands of miles without a fuel related problem (as long as the fuel does not get contaminated with water and you change your filters regularly). Recently, the US went to ultra low sulfur Diesel. In raw form, ULSD has less lubricity than the old stuff, so it has the potential to cause pump failure. But the refiners (at least in the northeast) have been mixing a little biodiesel in with it. This not only increases the lubricity, it raises cetane a couple of points. So far, I've found it works better than the old stuff. We will see if there's any impact on durability.3. Are all blow off valves the same size from the gasket area ?A "Blow Off Valve"? Washing Machine Shutoff Valve Won't Close
Our original washer valves were 1/2" multi-turn with rubber washer to brass seat and they were sweated onto the 1/2" copper tubing. The sweat joint was exposed in the box so I did not have to open up the drywall below the box. When I redid them I sweated on a fitting going to 1/2" FIP so I could thread in valves.I thought the new quarter turn ball valves I got from HD or Lowe's were themselves 1/2" FIP and I got a "nipple" ( 1/2" MIP x 1/2" MIP) to connect the two 1/2" FIP joints on the supply and the valve, respectively. But looking at the valve it appears that the valves are actually 1/2" MIP. I don't know if this is the best way to do this. I had a lot of trouble with getting the threaded joint to stop seeping. I can see why the professionals prefer to sweat the valve in. But for an amateur using a torch inside a wall risks starting a fire. The suggestion of using a SharkBite is a good one.EDITI said above that I had considerable trouble getting these valves to stop seeping and I think I now realize why--the threaded tubes on these long shank valves are surely straight, parallel and are not tapered! Long shanks cannot tapered. They could be tapered at the ends and straight above that, but that would show .Only short shank valves can be tapered, Short shank valves of course could be straight, but almost certainly (at least in the US) would be tapered. I redid these three times and finally got it to a very slow seep which plugged up over a week or so. But this is not an acceptable installation. These valves were probably intended for sweating 1/2" copper tubing inside the shank. What Would Cause an Automatic Transmission to Whine ?
depending on what type of transmission it is will depend on what is making the noise and why. like is it a 350 turbo or a 4R100. front wheel drive CD4E or a 440T4. with the various styles of transmissions it could be a list of things. the most common problem almost all transmissions share is front pump failure. this will cause a variety of things from whinning to burn up trans. the pump can fail in a few ways. by excessive wear to a modulating valve hanging up in it. there's also chances of valve body problems like valves hanging up in it. to simple things as low fluid level. some of the newer model transmissions have a full set of electronic solenoids that control pressure and shifts that could be causing a problem as well. outside of hydraulic systems there's bearings that could be bad to a sungear or planetary system in them thats worn out. in this case i would have to start by checking the fluid and work from there. if fluid level is fine then its time to see a transmission specialist, either at a trans shop or dealership.1. Smoke/Gas smell coming from oil cap in 95 civic?Lets separate out a few issues- The gasoline smell in the crank case is because of blow by. This blow by is to some degree normal. But it can be excessive as the rings fail. As rings fail the crank case is subject to more pressure and if the problem is excessive leads to failure of gaskets such places as the oil pan and valve covers. If you are not loosing coolant and the system is sucking coolant back into the engine when it cools- the odds are that the head gasket is fine. Now on the average a car this old would have about 210000 miles on it. This is well over the design life expectancy of the rings, valves and valve seals. While Honda's are known to get 250000 miles out of an engine- it might be wise to start shopping for a replacement engine (if you like the car) or a new car. If you are a gear head- start looking into what engines make nice swaps for power and act accordingly.2. What concepts/rules apply for multi-stage pumping of waterI do not believe that this would be necessary.Most pumps (not constant volume ones) have a relationship between flow rate and pressure jump (often called a pump curve). It happens about once a minute constantly. I've eliminated every possibility I could think of:I put food coloring into the tank and waited 20 minutes. The water in the bowl did not change color. Furthermore it does not exhibit the other sign of a leaking flapper, the tank occasionally refilling.I observed the refill tube and did not see anything dripping from it.I turned off the water and the sound continued. After leaving the water off overnight, the sound stopped.Unlike How to fix dripping sound coming from toilets? this happens pretty much constantly, not just when material is added to the bowl.Any other ideas? Here's some philosophy on lip slurs. I have not played this book in particular, but as a brass specialist I can talk about lip flexibility in general; it's the same thing.The ultimate goal of this is to have a clean transition between any two notes in different partials. This is the same whether you are trilling between two partials in a high register very quickly or jumping over many partials in the middle register. I am curious as to what you mean by "bending." This might just be a shorthand for a different notation, or a misinterpretation of some marking, but I can not think of a situation outside of jazz or modern extended techniques where you would need to "bend" a note on the trumpet. Trills do not require that.What is being shown in this example is a pretty simple lip slur exercise. The notation indicates that every pair of notes should be tongued, slurring from the first to the second note of each pair with a continuous airstream.One way to practice this at first would be to play on the mouthpiece alone by slowly glissing, or bending, from the first note to the next. This helps to encourage the right lip movement and continuous airstream. As this starts to feel comfortable you can speed it up, so that when you put the mouthpiece back into the instrument, the movement is so fast that you only play two pitches and do not hear anything in between. That's the objective, a clean, clear break between the G and the C.The idea is to make the lip slur sound no different from a slur between two notes in the same partial with different fingerings. You can play two different notes in the same partial just by depressing a valve; this will give you a clean, clear break between the two notes, and they will be connected if you do not interrupt the airstream. Your goal is to make two notes in different partials with the same valve combination under a slur sound exactly the same way.As you get to more advanced material, you will extend this by beginning to lip slur across partials. Consider a 6th between middle G and high E. Both of those notes are played open, but there is a partial in the middle for high C. When you slur between G and E, it should sound no different than slurring between G and C (and by extension, no different from playing two notes right next to each other with valves). When you first try this, you will almost certainly hear the C in between those two notes (because keep in mind, you should not use the tongue to articulate a lip slur!). Your job is to minimize that partial in the middle to the point where it disappears entirely and you only hear the G and E when you slur between them. This is why practicing lip slurs is so important to brass players--it's our life blood. Lip trills are just these techniques taken to their extreme in the upper register. If the engine is loaded with sludge, then the atf breaks too much free and it either blocks the oil pump pickup screen or plugs the oil filter, which caused the bypass valve to let all that heavily contaminated oil circulate through the engine and then the real problems begin.
