You must first begin with the initial reason for going to yoga: mind, body, spirit! You are there for a reason; to better yourself. What you wear is not important. However, I have taken many yoga classes and I always ask the instructor what he or she requires. Why? The obvious of course. Your instructor is exactly that, an instructor. Not only do they lead the class, but also check students for proper form and muscle flexion. If you wear baggy sweats your instructor might not be able to give you the feedback necessary. For me, I wear a form fitting coolmax type shirt and leggings or tights. Fabric will depend on the class. Whatever keeps me cool in class is best. For hot yoga I wear a pair of short lycra shorts or a boxcut style mens swim suit and no shirt. Do I worry about modesty? Of course, but you are not at yoga to check out other peoples bodies. If another student has a problem with what I wear that is their problem not mine. Be confident, be comfortable, but most important is be yourself.

Have you been greenwashed?If you've ever bought Lululemon clothes that were supposed to soften your skin, you certainly have. The Vancouver-based brand of yoga clothes got caught greenwashing last week, when the Competition Bureau of Canada asked the company to remove health and environmental claims from tags on clothes made of SeaCell, a seaweed fibre purported to have skin-moisturizing effects.In fact, the competition bureau revealed it's watching the entire field of eco-friendly textiles, a trend that has emerged in recent years in a fashion industry that's always hungry for the next big thing.But the issue of greenwashing extends well beyond a few fancy fabrics. If you've purchased everyday items such as toilet tissue, wall paint, hand soap or light bulbs that claimed to be environmentally friendly, you've probably been greenwashed, too.The word, coined in the mid-'80s by environmentalists, is a mash-up of the words green and whitewash and refers to the increasingly virulent marketing strategy used by corporations cashing in on consumer interest in environmental causes.Greenwashing takes many forms. The most blatant are environmental claims that are irrelevant, unproven, or just plain wrong."Consumers are inundated with thousands of claims," says Scott McDougall, president of TerraChoice Marketing Inc., an Ottawa-based environmental marketing firm that recently surveyed more than 1,000 products with green claims."More than 99 per cent of those products committed at least one sin of greenwashing," says McDougall, explaining that the survey's results, released this week, identified six different greenwashing sins - from irrelevance to fibbing.The study aims to simplify the exploding field of environmental marketing claims for both consumers and marketers."We saw a steep spike in the number of environmental claims in the marketplace, and we were worried," says McDougall, who explains that TerraChoice is a private company that administers the Ecologo environmental certification system for the government of Canada. It also advises companies that market environmentally friendly products.To do its survey, TerraChoice sent researchers into six leading big box stores in Canada and United States to examine labels on 1,018 products claiming to be "environmentally friendly." The researchers assessed green claims against accepted practices in environmental marketing. To define those practices, the survey referred to such sources as the International Organization for Standardization and Consumer Affairs Canada."The most surprising thing was how pervasive the issue is," says McDougall, who noted that greenwashing is not just annoying, it's also potentially harmful to the environment."We all need to get better at this. If we don't, consumers will inadvertently support products that are only pretending to be green."Legitimately green products won't win the consumer support because consumer attention is distracted by less genuinely green products." Even worse, he adds, if the deception continues unchecked, consumers will inevitably become skeptical and give up trying to buy green.McDougall says smart companies will soon realize that questionable claims don't help sales, especially as consumers get savvy and demand that companies back up claims with science.But are consumers up to the job? McDougall thinks so."We know consumers in Toronto and across the country want to do the right thing," he says. "Some consumers are willing to do a little bit of investigation and become more discerning. Those more discerning consumers can drive a change in marketing." TerraChoice's study makes recommendations to consumers like:First, look for certifications by independent third parties. In North America, the two major certification bodies are EcoLogo (ecologo.org) and Green Seal (greenseal.org). To make sure the products aren't using the logos fraudulently, cross-reference labels with public listings of certified products.Second, expect environmental claims to be specific and clearly explained. If the product's package isn't helpful, look for referrals to a website or toll-free phone number. "Good green marketing helps the consumer find the evidence and learn more," says the report.TerraChoice also advises marketers on how to avoid greenwashing while still selling its greener products."If green marketing is going to succeed and accelerate in Canada, it has to work as marketing," McDougall points out."It has to engage consumers and it has to be accessible."

You know I use to eat these special k strawberry or berry protein bars all the time because they are fricken delicious! There are two keys for an efficient routine: The most efficient routine is that which is tailored for you. Period. That's why Hollywood stars can get from fat to fit in six months, when to one of us it take years. If you, as do I, have no money for that kind of personal training, then you should learn to do it yourself. Know what works for you and how. Know your weakness and tricks to avoid it. Play to your strengths. So, learn a lot, read a lot, experiment with yourself, and learn the lessons. Do everything. Really. Do not limit your toolbox. When you are a professional something (bodybuilder, athlete, lifter, fighter, etc...) you need to compromise to get a very specific level of proficiency in something. But most of us are not pros. Most of us are guys and gals trying to get fitter, stronger and healthier, in whatever order you put it. So, we do not need that kind of compromises. Doing only one kind of training is not efficient. You need to give your body all kind of stimuli. From all kind of sources. Kept your body guessing. Change things. Because that is, at best, two hours a week (a lot less for most of us), and the rest of the time we are with our bottoms in a damn office chair. So we need all we can get. I will tell you the things I have in my toolbox, the things I do. Some things I do in almost a daily basis (like Yoga), others, three or four times a week (bodybuilding), others, weekly o once in two weeks (calisthenics), other sporadically. But each of them helps a lot, and the specific frequency depends on you (see point 1), and there is no good generic answer: Bodybuilding: This might be my "main" activity. Yoga: All days, almost. Flexibility, breathing and body awareness. Since I started this my workouts have reached a new level... now I know how to breath correctly and have achieved the almost mythical mind-muscle connection. Olympic Lifting: this gives a kind of full body strength and explosive energy that you really need. Also, the best way to wipe your back into form. Olympic Rings: Ok, this is not for everyone. I am small, so is easier for me. But if you want body control, you need this. My workouts have got a new level since many of the things I do in bodybuilding, I do using rings (all kind of dips, for example. And lower abs, from doing it hanged in the pull-up bar, to doing it in the rings, goes a lot better). Calisthenics: sit-ups, pull-ups, push-ups, burpees... fast, and furious. Getting a lot of conditioning and explosive strength. As you get more muscular mass, you have to keep your vascular system revving up, so it can take the added effort. Cardiovascular exercise: elliptic, treadmill, running... from HIIT, Tabata versions, to push the EPOC, to steady-state, to keep the resistance. The efficient things in this business are not in the great or the generic. Are in the detail. And there is enough to fill three master degrees. For example, sure as hell that if you want to get good at bodybuilding, you need to learn a lot of anatomies, and fast, because how each muscle works is important as hell to do an efficient workout. And everything is like that. I am sorry there is no easy answer. but there is not . There is no magic workout, no skeleton key to be fit. There is a lot to learn, a lot to practice, and a lot to do. That the most efficient way. Keep yourself to only one kind of exercise could be easier, could be more comfortable, what sure as hell it is not is more efficient.
